Hike Arenal 1968 Trails + Lunch  + Los Cañones Canopy Tour or Horseback Riding and Los Lagos Hot Springs

Departure time:

8:00 am (exact time varies slightly depending on the location of your hotel in La Fortuna or Arenal Volcano area)

We will pick you up at your hotel to take you to  Arenal  Volcano Trails  where you will hike accompanied by a naturalist guide who will teach you about the area, the history of the volcano, and details about the eruptions that form the lava flows you will hike to.

The hike lasts about two and a half hours and classified as an moderate hike.

From the lookout point (on clear days) you can see magnificent views of the colossal Volcano; from another point you will be treated to panoramic views of Lake Arenal.

We recommend that you bring closed toe shoes, pants, insect repellant, a hat, and on rainy days a poncho.

Afterwards we will take you to the Restaurant where you can enjoy a delicious complete lunch. 

In this second part you get to choose if you’d prefer a Canopy tour at Los Cañones (the canyons) or to take a horseback ride along the edges of Arenal Volcano.

Option 1: Los Cañones Canopy Tour

At 1:00 pm your next adventure begins with an adrenaline packed Canopy tour providing amazing views of the tropical rainforest near Arenal Volcano.

After a safety and training chat you’ll be ready to ride the 12 cables that range from 50 to 500 meters in length and altitudes of 20 to 60 meters off the ground.

The cables make a connection from platform to platform suspended in old growth trees. In total you’ll ride 2.8 kilometers of cables during the tour.

Option 2: Horseback Riding Around Arenal Volcano

If you choose this tour you’ll enjoy two and a half hours on the back of horses that are well trained and cared for. This horseback ride around Arenal Volcano will take you on trails through the tropical rainforest taking you on a route past Los Juncos Lake and on to the Los Lagos lookout point. From there on clear days you can appreciate a spectacular view of Arenal Volcano. Later we will continue through virgin forests to the Los Lirios Lake. As you ride you’ll not only enjoy the ride, but also get to observe birds and other local animals, as well as the abundance of green vegetation. 

After the activities listed above you can enjoy the facilities at Los Lagos Hot Springs; these include 5 hot pools, two cool pools, 3 waterslides (65, 15, and 10 meters in length), a crocodile and caiman pool, a butterfly habitat, and a display of leaf cutter ants in action to close out a wonderful day in La Fortuna and Arenal Volcano.
